I'm really concerned about my 5-year-old. He's been snoring a lot, and every time the weather changes even a little, he gets a cold, cough, and sometimes a fever. One doctor mentioned something about getting an X-ray to check for an adenoid issue, and now an ENT specialist is suggesting surgery. I'm worried about going through with surgery at such a young age. Do you think it's the right move? And if we do decide on surgery, which hospital would you recommend for something like this?

I'm really struggling to understand what's going on with my preauricular sinus pit. I've had it since birth on my left ear and for years, it would drain and I'd have to use medications. It stopped leaking around 5 to 10 years ago, but I started dealing with swelling instead, and tried more meds. Then in 2017, it got infected and turned into an abscess, so I went through surgery for an incision and drainage. The surgeon said they removed the entire tract, but I'm still getting swelling that won't heal, even with meds. It's really confusing and frustrating. Given that this seems to be a rare issue, what steps should I take? Who's the best surgeon to reach out to about something like this?

A preauricular sinus, also known as a preauricular pit, cyst, or fissure, is a sinus tract that runs under the skin and starts with a small opening in front of the ear. It's a common congenital malformation that occurs when the ear develops abnormally early in gestation. You should consult a specialist ENT surgeon for confirmation of appropriate treatment if required

I'm currently taking Augmentin 625 and Doxolin 400, but my throat infection is still not getting better. I started Montemac FX today and also began Atorvastatin for my high cholesterol. My chest is clear, though I've got this annoying cough. I'm using Betadine gargle, but I'm really looking for something to get fast relief for my throat. Any suggestions on what I can do?

I see that you are already taking Augmentin 625 for the infection, Doxolin 400 for the cough, Montemac FX for the throat infection, and Atorvastatin for high cholesterol. Since you are still experiencing throat infection and cough, I recommend adding an over-the-counter antitussive such as Benadryl Cough Syrup to help with the cough. Additionally, you can try steam inhalation with a few drops of eucalyptus oil to help soothe your throat. Make sure to continue with the Betadine gargle as prescribed. If your symptoms persist or worsen, please follow up with your family doctor for further evaluation and management.

I've got this pimple or bump on my uvula, and it's really painful when I eat or drink. I'm not sure whether this is something that'll go away on its own or if I should get it checked out. What do you think?

It sounds like you may have a small irritation or infection on your uvula, which can cause discomfort while swallowing. While it might resolve on its own, if the pain persists, worsens, or you notice other symptoms, it's a good idea to see a doctor for further evaluation and treatment.
