I'm really worried after visiting a barber shop because I'm afraid I might have been exposed to infections like HBV, HCV, or HIV. Could you tell me more about when I should get tested? I heard that an antibodies test for HIV can be done after 4 weeks or even up to 12 weeks, but I also read something about a p24 antigen test that can be taken after 4 weeks. How accurate are these tests? I could really use some advice right now.

Antibodies test for HIV can be performed after 4 weeks for preliminary results, but for more accurate results, it is recommended to wait for 12 weeks post-exposure. The p24 antigen test can be performed after 4 weeks to detect the HIV virus directly. It is important to follow up with healthcare provider for further evaluation and management.

I've got a question about the rabies vaccine. So, I had the full rabipur course back in November and December 2019. But then I got exposed again in February 2020 from a dog lick and took booster dosesone on February 4th, another on February 28th, then March 28th, and the last one on April 27th. Now, I'm worried about how long I'm actually protected. If I have another incident like a bite or a lick in the future, what should I do? Can you give me some guidance on this?

I'm really concerned about something that happened a year ago. I had an encounter with a prostitute, and during sex, the condom ripped. Although I didn't fully penetrate her, my penis did come into contact with her vagina. She assured me there was no risk, but I'm still worried. I'm not sure if she had HIV, and if there's a chance I might have contracted it. Should I consider getting an HIV test?

Considering the potential exposure to HIV, it is advisable to get tested for HIV. You can take a combination of antiretroviral drugs such as Truvada (emtricitabinetenofovir) as post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) within 72 hours of the exposure to reduce the risk of HIV transmission. It is also recommended to get tested for HIV using a fourth-generation HIV test, which can detect both HIV antibodies and antigens. Follow up with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and management.
