I'm starting to feel some roughness inside my mouth that I can't see, but I notice it every time my tongue touches the inside of my cheeks or lips. It's making my food taste spicier than it actually is when I'm eating. Also, I am a smoker. Could this be related to smoking, or is there something else I should be worried about?

I've had a gum infection for the past 4 days near my lower front teeth and I'm also undergoing RCT treatment. My dentist mentioned that if the infection doesn't clear up with the RCT, I might need surgery. Is gum surgery really the best option for this kind of infection? I'm worried about what the procedure involves and if there are other alternatives I should consider first.
sx is option only.
