I've been dealing with a cough for about two weeks now. I took a three-day course of azithromycin and some cough syrup, but nothing seems to be helping. Should I be worried or consider trying something else?

Persistent Cough After Antibiotics and Cough Syrup

Concerns and Next Steps

  1. Incomplete treatment: Azithromycin is typically prescribed for 5-7 days. A 3-day course might not have fully cleared the infection.
  2. Underlying conditions: Persistent cough can be a symptom of various conditions, such as bronchitis, pneumonia, allergies, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
  3. Further evaluation needed: Consult your doctor to reassess your symptoms and determine the best course of action.

Recommended Actions

  1. Schedule a follow-up appointment: Visit your doctor to discuss your persistent cough and determine if additional testing or treatment is necessary.
  2. Get a chest X-ray or other tests: Your doctor may order a chest X-ray, spirometry, or other tests to rule out underlying conditions.
  3. Consider alternative treatments: Depending on the underlying cause, your doctor may prescribe additional medications, such as bronchodilators, antihistamines, or acid reflux medications.

I'm experiencing some wheezing, but it's only happening when I inhale. There's no sound when I exhale, although I do have a bit of trouble with it. The wheezing and breathing issues are really just on the inhale. What could be causing this?

Hey, so about a month ago, I noticed I was coughing up blood even though I didn't have a cough or cold, and it went on for a week before stopping. But just a couple of days ago, it started happening again. I had a chest X-ray, and the report said the bronchovascular mark is prominent in the lungs field. I also got a CBC done, and while most things seemed normal, my ESR was high at 38, and my hemoglobin was low at 11.5. I've also been having sharp pains in my chest, back, neck, and sometimes in my abdomen. Do you think this could be something serious?

Based on your symptoms and test results, it is important to address the underlying cause of the blood in your sputum and the chest pain. The prominent bronchovascular mark on your chest x-ray may indicate inflammation or infection in the lungs. To help reduce inflammation and manage any potential infection, I recommend taking a course of antibiotics such as Azithromycin 500mg once daily for 5 days. In addition, the high ESR and low hemoglobin levels suggest possible inflammation in the body and mild anemia. To address this, you can take Ferrous Sulfate 325mg twice daily to help increase your hemoglobin levels and improve your overall health. It is important to follow up with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and management of your symptoms to ensure appropriate treatment and monitoring.

I'm really worried because I just got my medical results back, and they said theres some white area on the chest X-ray, particularly on the lower side of my left chest. It caused my medical to be deemed unfit. What could this possibly mean, and what should I do next? Do I need further tests or treatments?

Physician opinion is advised to the patient.
