I've had squint eyes since I was a kid and now I'm 22 is surgery the only option or are there other treatments I can try to fix this

I have high myopia with -19 and -14 in both eyes and also deal with computer vision syndrome. My doctor said surgery is too risky for me. I can't use the computer for more than an hour without discomfort, even with lubricant eye drops. Will continuing to use screens cause more damage to my eyes? Is it still possible for me to pursue computer engineering in the future given my condition?
You can use computer without fear Computer vision syndrome causes dryness but it cant decrease the vision

I have pretty high sphere and cylinder numbers in my prescription and I'm considering laser surgery but I've never worn glasses or contacts before. Is it safe to go straight to surgery without trying corrective lenses first? What should I know about the risks or recovery?
