My dad is 65 and has COPD from smoking and exposure to harmful gases for 15 years. He also has a hernia we know COPD isn't curable, but is it safe for him to have hernia surgery now given his condition?

It's understandable to be concerned about hernia surgery in someone with COPD. While COPD itself isn't curable, a hernia surgery can be safe if the patient's lung function is within acceptable limits and proper management is in place.

View allI'm really worried about my mom. She's been having this persistent lower abdominal pain, and a doctor back home suggested that it might be a hernia. I'm a bit confused about who we should see for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Should we be consulting a gastroenterologist, or is it better to visit a general surgeon for this kind of issue? Any guidance would be really helpful.
