My father does not have diabetes. However, today his fasting glucose was 121 mg/dL, and his postprandial blood sugar (PPBS) was 88 mg/dL. Is this a concern? Why is the PPBS lower than the fasting glucose? How should we proceed? His HbA1c is 6.2 percent

A fasting sugar of 121 and HbA1c of 6.2 percent indicates prediabetes, even if PPBS is lower. PPBS can be lower due to light meal or higher insulin response. It is important to control diet and maintain a healthy weight. Begin morning walks, reduce sugar and rice intake. Repeat Fasting Sugar, PPBS, and HbA1c after 3 months to check progress. Medication may not be needed now if lifestyle is well managed.

My question is about whether labs have different reference values because of the reagents used in processing. My lab report shows an A1C value of 6, and the lab normal range shows up to 6.2. I understand that normal values are usually less than 5.7, but in this case, can 6 be considered normal since the lab range shows up to 6.2? I understand fasting is high, but please restrict your answer to differences in lab normal ranges.

I did the HBA1C, OGTT, and TSH tests as recommended by a doctor at Cloudnine. My report shows HBA1C 9.7, average glucose 231.69, fasting sugar 191 high, 1 hour post load 326 high, 2 hours post load 398 high, and TSH 7.325 high. These values are higher than normal. What would be your suggestion regarding diet or medicines?
