My mom is 62 and was diagnosed with a 13 mm gallstone last month. Her total bilirubin level just came back at 5.9 today and she's feeling extremely weak can barely stand. We're planning surgery next month but what tests or steps should we take now to bring her bilirubin levels down?

Given her high bilirubin level (5.9) and symptoms, it's crucial to seek immediate medical attention. Her elevated bilirubin level, along with the 13mm gallstone, strongly suggests a potential issue with bile flow and possibly a blockage. The next steps involve confirming the cause, managing any complications, and preparing her for surgery

View allI've been having this issue where whenever I drink water, it seems to create gas in my stomach, and for a while afterward, I feel this heavy discomfort, almost like my stomach is full. Is this something I should be worried about? Is there something I can do to stop this from happening?
It sounds like you may be experiencing bloating or excess gas in your stomach after drinking water, which could be due to swallowing air (aerophagia) or sensitivity to certain temperature or mineral content in the water. Its advisable to drink water slowly and in smaller sips to minimize discomfort. If the issue persists, a consultation with a gastroenterologist may help identify any underlying conditions.

I'm a bit concerned about my bilirubin level because it's been at 1.4 for the last 5 years, but I never paid much attention to it, and my doctor hasn't brought it up either. I take ursocol tablets daily. Do you know why my bilirubin level might be staying the same for so long?
A persistently elevated bilirubin level of 1.4 mgdL for 5 years, despite taking Ursocol (Ursodeoxycholic acid), may indicate a underlying condition such as Gilbert's syndrome, a benign liver condition, or other liver issues like primary biliary cirrhosis; consult your doctor to discuss further testing, such as liver function tests, ultrasound,

I've just gotten my LFT and Lipid profile test results, and I'm kind of worried because the numbers seem high. My total bilirubin is at 2.1 mgdl, direct bilirubin is 0.5 mgdl, and the indirect bilirubin is 1.6 mgdl. Can you help me understand what these high values mean? Should I be concerned?
Based on these results, you may benefit from taking Ursodeoxycholic acid to help lower your bilirubin levels.
