My mom has severe back pain and can't walk properly, with her right leg going numb. Her whole spinal MRI shows severe spinal canal stenosis. She already has partial paralysis from a brain hemorrhage six years ago and takes daily BP meds. Should we consider surgery for her condition and what would the cost be

View allI've been diagnosed with a slipped L4L5S1 disc and doctors are recommending surgery but I'm scared of going under the knife. Is it possible to manage the severe lower back and left leg pain without surgery? What are my other options?
Yes, it's possible to manage a slipped L4L5S1 disc and associated pain without surgery. Conservative treatments like physical therapy, medications, and injections are often the first line of defense. Surgical options are usually considered if conservative measures don't provide sufficient relief or if nerve compression is severe

My MRI report shows diffuse disc bulge at L4-L5 and L5-S1 with foraminal protrusion, annular tears, and nerve compression. The canal is narrowed to 9.4mm at L5-S1. Can this be managed with physiotherapy and exercise, or is surgery necessary? I'm worried about the nerve compression and whether conservative treatment would be enough.
It's understandable to be concerned about the nerve compression and whether physiotherapy and exercise are enough for your L4-L5 and L5-S1 disc bulges, especially with the narrowed canal at L5-S1. While physiotherapy is often the first line of treatment, surgical intervention might be necessary depending on the severity of your symptoms and the effectiveness of conservative approaches

Had cervical spine laminectomy surgery 8 months ago and still dealing with neck and shoulder pain when turning my head. My post-surgery MRI report shows everything's fine but the discomfort won't go away. Could this be normal healing or something I should worry about?
