My recent TSH test result is 3.42. I have been taking 125 mcg of thyroid medication for years, but I am still not getting relief and continue to gain weight. A doctor I consulted for back pain mentioned that the medicine I am taking could be fake, since my thyroid is in range but my dosage is high. What mcg dose should I actually be taking?

I am 66 years old. My thyroid test was done on an empty stomach after taking my thyroid medicine. The results show TSH is 3.65, T3 is 0.65 ng/mL (slightly low) and T4 is 5.96 microgram/dL (slightly low). I am taking 25 mcg of thyroxine daily.
