My wife has been on steroids for a week due to her higher ESR rate, and I'm a bit worried because she's recently developed some swelling around her knee. Could the swelling be a side effect of the steroids? Would love to know what you think.

Steroids can indeed cause side effects, including swelling in the legs. This swelling is known as peripheral edema and can be a result of fluid retention caused by the steroids. It is important to monitor this side effect and inform your doctor about it. In the meantime, elevating the legs and reducing salt intake may help alleviate the swelling.

View allI'm dealing with this annoying pain in the upper thigh on my left side. It's not super intense, but it's always there and gets on my nerves. There's also some swelling at the top of my thigh compared to the other side, and the pain seems to start there and then moves down to the inner part of my thigh. Ive already done an MRI of my hip and pelvis, and even had my blood tests done everything came back normal except for a vitamin D3 and B12 deficiency. I've been taking vitamin B12 injections and 60k IU of vitamin D3 once a week, but its only been two weeks so far. Im just wondering how long it will take for my vitamin levels to get back to normal. Also, Ive tried physical therapy, but it hasn't really helped with the pain or swelling. Any advice on what I can do next?

My mom is 55 and has severe rheumatoid arthritis she's already had knee and hip replacements, and now her shoulder and neck joints are wearing out. Her doctor recommended Humira, but I'm wondering how effective it would be for such an advanced case. Will it give her long-term relief, or are there other treatment options we should consider?
For your mother's advanced rheumatoid arthritis, Humira (a biologic DMARD) can be effective in slowing disease progression and providing pain relief, but it's not a cure. Other treatment options, including other DMARDs and lifestyle adjustments, should also be considered
