View allMy MRI report shows a perianal fistula with an external opening in the left paramedian gluteal cleft. Can this be treated with medication or will I need surgery?
In most cases, a perianal fistula with an external opening in the left paramedian gluteal cleft requires surgical intervention to resolve. While medication, like antibiotics, might be used to manage associated infections, they won't cure the fistula itself. Surgery, often a fistulotomy, is needed to open and drain the fistula tract, allowing healing from the bottom up.
