I am worried about whether I am pregnant. My doctor has asked me to come on 19th July for a Beta HCG test. Can I check a home pregnancy test today to get an idea of whether I am pregnant?

Is a beta hCG test a confirmatory method to detect pregnancy after 17 days of intercourse? If the result is negative, can I relax, or is any further testing required to confirm?
