Question

I am planning for pregnancy. Last year, in the 32nd week, I had a miscarriage due to CMV IgG and IgM being positive. Today we did a TORCH test for the next pregnancy. The results are Rubella IgG 67.90 IU/ml, IgM 0.40; CMV IgG greater than 250.0 AU/ml, IgM 2.43. I am worrying about this. Can I plan for pregnancy? Please help.

Your Rubella IgG positive with IgM negative indicates past immunity and is safe for pregnancy. CMV IgG positive with low IgM (2.43) likely reflects past infection, not a new active infection, as high IgM usually indicates recent infection. However, to be sure, you can book a CMV IgG avidity test to confirm if the infection is old before planning pregnancy. Most women with past CMV can plan pregnancy safely. Discuss these reports with your gynecologist to plan your pregnancy confidently and start prenatal vitamins.
