Aspartate Aminotransferase (SGOT, Photometry): 37.3 U/L
Alanine Aminotransferase (SGPT, Photometry): 76.3 U/L
The SGPT value is significantly above the upper normal limit. Could this indicate a liver problem? Please advise.

Hello, my blood report shows SGOT 67. Is this a serious concern? Please suggest what I should do. I had earlier posted a question about a dry cough for the last month, and the doctor advised X-ray and blood tests. Everything came normal except SGOT elevated to 67. I work in the merchant navy, and if this does not get corrected, I may lose my job as I need to be medically fit every time I go on the ship. Please help. I am very worried about my health and job. Someone said there might be swelling in the liver, which is why the SGOT is 67.

Please look at ALT, AST, GGT and bilirubin values. If any are raised, it may suggest liver inflammation. Avoid alcohol/fatty foods. Consult a hepatologist for cause-specific treatment.
