My father, who is diabetic, has been suffering from chronic cough for some time, especially in cool air. Recently, he developed high fever, and the doctor diagnosed him with pneumonia, prescribing tablets and syrup. He experienced relief from the cough for 2 days, but now he has a persistent dry cough that sometimes prevents him from sleeping at night. He continues to take both pneumonia and diabetes medications. Sleeping in a cooler worsens his cough. He had slight relief after stopping diabetes medications for a day, but it was minimal. The doctor recommended a sputum test, but he is unable to produce sputum. What should be the next steps?

Chronic cough post pneumonia needs monitoring. Avoid cooler air, use steam inhalation. Do Chest Xray, CBC if no sputum. Continue diabetes medicines. Visit doctor if worsening or breathlessness.
