faqFrequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How is the blood sample taken?

A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm to take the blood sample. The patient is then asked to make a fist. This helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins, making it easy to collect the blood. The skin is cleaned before inserting the needle in the vein to prevent bacteria from entering. Needle is inserted into the vein of the arm and the blood sample is collected in the vacutainer.

Why this test is ordered?

Usually, this test is for women aged between 35 and 60 and people who are highly susceptible to a hepatic issue like primary biliary cirrhosis. This condition can cause scarring of the bile ducts inside the liver and inflammation of the local area. It will adversely affect one?s lifestyle, as it may lead to gradual degradation of the bile flow and, at last, cause a total blockage of the flow.

Will, I need to do any special preparation for this test?

You may not need any special preparations for this test.

What are the risks that occur with the AMA test?

There is minimal risk involved in having a blood test. You may have a bruise or slight pain at the site where the blood was drawn from, but most symptoms subside quickly.
