How is the blood sample taken?
A tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm to take the blood sample. You need to make a fist; this helps in the build-up of blood filling the veins, making it easy to collect the blood. The skin is cleaned before inserting the needle in the vein to prevent bacteria from entering. Then the needle inserted into the vein in the arm, and the blood sample is collected in the vacutainer.
Does this test require any special preparation?
No special preparation is required for this test. Usually, a morning between 8 am and 10 am blood sample is needed for this test.
