To take the blood sample, a tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is asked to make a fist. The Herpes Simplex virus causes herpes infection and is also known as HSV. It is of two types: HSV-1 and HSV-2.

The individuals that are at risk of developing herpes are those who have multiple sex partners, having sex at a younger age, are suffering from other sexually transmitted infections, have a weakened immune system. Females are at more risk of herpes infection as compared to males.

The symptoms of herpes infection include the presence of blistering sores in the mouth or in the genitals, pain during urination, and itching. There are other symptoms that are similar to flu that include fever, headaches, tiredness, swollen lymph nodes, and lack of appetite.
