How is the blood sample taken?

To take the blood sample, a tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is asked to make a fist. This helps in the buildup of blood filling the veins and it becomes easy to collect the blood. The skin is cleaned before inserting the needle in the vein in order to prevent bacteria from entering. The needle is then inserted into the vein in the arm and the blood sample is collected in the vacutainer.

What are the signs and symptoms of autoimmune vasculitis?

The signs and symptoms of autoimmune vasculitis at early stages are nonspecific. These include fever, fatigue, weight loss, muscle and/or joint aches, and night sweats. In the later stages with the progression of the disease, complications occur that involve various tissues and organs. Examples include red, itchy eyes also referred to as pink eye, blurry vision, loss of vision; hearing loss, runny nose, upper respiratory infections, rashes, granulomas, cough, difficulty in breathing, and presence of protein in the urine.

The symptoms of Inflammatory bowel disease include abdominal pain, cramps, diarrhea, rectal bleeding, fever, fatigue, symptoms related to joints, skin, bone, and other organs. Children might experience delayed development and retardation of growth.

Depending upon the conditions to be diagnosed, various tests are advised along with the P-ANCA test. To check for inflammation, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and/or C-reactive protein test is advised. To measure and evaluate the white and red blood cells, a complete blood count is advised. To evaluate kidney function, urinalysis, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine test is advised.
