    Frequently asked questions

To take the blood sample, a tourniquet (elastic) band is placed tightly on the upper arm. The patient is asked to make a fist. This helps in the buildup of blood filling the veins and it becomes easy to collect the blood. The skin is cleaned before inserting the needle in the vein in order to prevent bacteria from entering. The needle is then inserted into the vein in the arm and the blood sample is collected in the vacutainer.
Rubella is a virus. It causes an infection in which there is mild fever and rash for 2 to 3 days.
There are two types of Rubella antibodies that include IgG and IgM. IgM antibody appears after exposure to the rubella virus for the first time. It rises to its highest levels in the blood in 7 to 10 days and the level falls down after the infection is cured. IgG antibodies appear late but stay in the blood for a lifetime. It helps the body to protect against re-infection.
The signs and symptoms of rubella infection include mild fever, pink rashes, runny or stuffy nose, red or inflamed eyes, pain in the joints, and swollen lymph nodes.
The symptoms of Rubella infection such as rashes start to appear in 12-23 days after getting exposed to the Rubella virus.
