About a month ago, I had a throat infection that lasted for 25 days. My doctor said it was a viral infection and did not recommend any tests. After I recovered, I decided to do a COVID antibody test on my own. The report shows IgG negative but total antibodies positive. I am now feeling fine. Does this mean I had a COVID infection, or can other viral infections also show total antibodies positive? Was my doctor wrong in diagnosing it as a non COVID viral infection?

A positive total antibody with negative IgG could mean a recent non COVID viral infection or waning immunity. It does not confirm COVID unless specific antibody (IgG/IgM) against SARS CoV 2 is positive.

Does a normal Covid test identify which variant it is?

My father tested COVID 19 positive on 26 July (sample taken on 23 July). After home isolation and treatment, he was retested on 12 August, and the report came today (13 August). The interpretation says 2019 nCoV negative, but I am confused about the MS2 gene detected part. Is he still contagious? Does he need to continue home isolation for a few more days?
