Question

I have been chewing tobacco and gutkha for several years, and over time, my mouth opening has reduced and my jaws have become stiff. I am very concerned and depressed because of this. I am unable to eat spicy food, and I also sweat a lot while eating. Could you please suggest if any ointment can be applied to the inner mouth or jaw area? Also, what tests should I undergo to evaluate this condition?

Could be oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF). Stop tobacco and gutkha immediately. Get oral examination by dentist/oral surgeon. Biopsy of affected area to confirm diagnosis. Check Vitamin B12, Iron Profile for deficiencies.

Dr. Siri Suggests...

Take a Vitamin B12 Test Test or Take a Iron Studies Test Test
