I have been prescribed Lipitor 20 mg once daily at bedtime since January 2016. Is it safe for me to stop this medication and try natural or home remedies to reduce my cholesterol instead? My blood sugar is under control. Please advise.

Lipitor helps lower cholesterol and protect your heart. Even if your sugar is fine, you should not stop this medicine without your doctors advice. You can ask your doctor if its safe to stop and try lifestyle changes instead. But sometimes diet alone is not enough.

Take a Lipid Profile Test Test or Take a LFT (Liver Function) Test Test

Dear Doctor, please suggest what to do? My husband HDL levels are very low. He was using statins to control triglycerides, which were over 100 and are now 171. I am worried about his HDL levels. His lipid profile shows total cholesterol 118 mg/dl, HDL cholesterol 24 mg/dl, LDL cholesterol 60 mg/dl, triglycerides 171 mg/dl, TC/HDL cholesterol ratio 4.9, LDL/HDL ratio 2.5, VLDL cholesterol 34.2 mg/dl, and non-HDL cholesterol 93.6 mg/dl.
