I'm 25 and dealing with Pott's spine. I've been on AKT treatment for the past 7 months and recent MRIs show the pus is going down. I did an LFT test and noticed that my alkaline phosphatase is a bit high at 126, while the normal range is 46 to 116. Everything else looks okay. Should I be worried about this? What other medications can I take to help with the side effects of AKT? A friend of mine mentioned trying LIVRITE for 15 days and Bendon while continuing AKT. What do you think I should do?

  1. Understanding Elevated Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

    • ALP is an enzyme linked to liver and bone health. Mild elevation can occur due to AKT treatment or bone healing.
  2. Monitoring and Safety During AKT Treatment

    • Regular liver function tests are crucial. Watch for symptoms like jaundice, fatigue, or abdominal pain.
  3. Managing Side Effects of AKT

    • Consider Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) to prevent neuropathy. Hepatoprotective supplements like Silymarin may help but consult your doctor first.
  4. Recommendations and Next Steps

    • Discuss any new supplements with your physician. Continue AKT regimen and attend regular follow-ups.
  5. Relevant Medical Specialties and Tests

    • Consult Infectious Disease specialists or Hepatologists if liver enzymes rise or symptoms develop.

I broke my ankle about five months ago and used a cast for it, but didn't have any surgery. It's healed now, but sometimes I'm still getting pain and swelling. I already talked to an ortho, and they said no workouts for a year and that I don't need physical therapy or any other treatment. I'm really wondering if I should be using a crepe bandage, anklet, ankle binder, or ankle brace to fully recover and be able to start working out again. What do you think would be best?

-It's great that your ankle is healing, but since your doctor advised no workouts for a year, it's best to follow that. For support during daily activities, using an ankle brace or binder can provide stability, but avoid straining it until you're cleared
