I'm a bit worried after my recent liver function test results came back. My AG ratio is high at 3.5, and while my albumin is in the normal range, my globulin level is low at 1.7. Also, my direct bilirubin is slightly elevated at 0.33. Most other test results seem normal though. What could all this mean? Could there be something going on with my liver that I should be concerned about?

An elevated Anion Gap (AG) ratio of 3.5, low globulin levels, and slightly high direct bilirubin levels can indicate several possible conditions. Since your albumin levels are normal, let's explore potential causes:

Possible Causes

  1. Malnutrition or Malabsorption: Low globulin levels can be due to inadequate nutrition or malabsorption.
  2. Liver Disease: Elevated AG ratio and slightly high direct bilirubin levels may indicate liver dysfunction or disease.
  3. Nephrotic Syndrome: Although albumin levels are normal, low globulin levels can be seen in nephrotic syndrome.
  4. Chronic Infections or Inflammation: Low globulin levels can be associated with chronic infections or inflammation.

Next Steps

  1. Consult a Hepatologist or Gastroenterologist: Discuss your test results with a specialist to determine the underlying cause.
  2. Additional Tests: Your doctor may recommend further tests, such as:
    • Liver ultrasound or imaging studies
    • Viral hepatitis screening
    • Autoantibody tests for autoimmune liver diseases
    • Urine tests to evaluate kidney function
  3. Dietary Changes: Ensure you're getting adequate nutrition, and consider consulting a dietitian for personalized guidance.

Please consult a specialist to determine the underlying cause of your abnormal test results.

I'm dealing with really painful hemorrhoids and it's getting hard for me to function properly. My stool is really hard and difficult to pass, and I just end up feeling so bloated if I don't have a clear stomach. It's painful whether I'm sitting or walking and I'm honestly super stressed out about it. I've been trying homeopathic medicines but they don't seem to do anything for me anymore. Can you suggest anything that might actually help? Also, things like isabgol that are supposed to act as stool softeners seem to harden it more, which is confusing. What should I do?

I've been taking Cirrosam 400 mg and Ursocol 300 mg once a day for the past three days, and my SGPT and SGOT levels are close to 150. I'm wondering if it's okay to drink alcohol while on these meds or if that could be harmful?

-It's not safe to consume alcohol while taking Cirrosam and Ursocol, as both medications are used to support liver function, and alcohol can further strain the liver. It's best to avoid alcohol during this treatment to prevent potential liver damage. Alwa

I'm really worried because I've been dealing with stomach problems for the last two months, like cramps, abdominal pain, weird motions, mild fever, red eyes, and headaches. I first saw one gastro doctor who thought it was an infection and gave me some medications like Zifi, Satrogyl, and Nizonide. He wanted me to do a bunch of tests like colonoscopy, endoscopy, biopsy, CT scans, and blood tests. I went to another senior gastro in Noida, and he said it's IBS and no need for all those tests. But then after his 10-day course, the issues came back, and he also blamed another infection. Now, it's been about 20 days since my stomach has been better, and I'm taking Menoctyl, Enzar Forte, and Vizylac. What's really bothering me is that I've lost 8-9 kg of weight despite eating enough lately, and my weight isn't going up. Is this normal? Should I stick with the same gastro since I'm finally feeling some relief? The weight loss is freaking me out a bit.
