I'm feeling really stressed and confused about a recent potential HIV exposure. I had protected sex with a prostitute on December 26th, 2021, and today is January 17th, 2022. I've been reading a lot about symptoms online, and it's freaking me out. I took an HIV test (4th generation abag p24) on the 10th day after the exposure, and it came back non-reactive, with an index value of 0.12. Does this mean I'm in the clear, or do I need to take another test on the 28th day, like my doctor suggested? He mentioned that if I'm negative on the 28th day, I can just move on, but I'm still unsure. Can you help clarify this for me?

Stay calm, follow your doctors advice, and get the test done at 28 days. It's likely that you are HIV negative, but waiting for the additional test will help to definitively confirm it. Avoid reading too much online about symptoms, as it may only increase stress and anxiety.

Yes if turns out to be resistant you have to switch to other antibiotic which is sensitive.

I'm really worried about my syphilis tests. About two months ago, my TPHA level was 1320 and RPR was 12. My doctor put me on doxycycline, 100 mg twice a day for 21 days. After finishing the treatment, I tested again and my TPHA had increased to 1640, with the RPR still at 12. They then gave me a penicillin injection, 2.4 mu, and told me to get tested after another two weeks. This time, my results were TPHA 1640 again, but RPR went up to 14. I even did a test at a different lab and the TPHA was 12560 there. I'm scared and not sure what's going on. Can you help me understand these results?

The window period of HIV can be any where between a month and a decade. However, you can undergo an ELISA test or Western blot test which are mostly accurate. If both these tests are non reactive, there are high chances that you are not HIV patient. However, you can still undergo a routine test every six months or once a year just to be sure
