I'm really struggling with my left nostril being blocked for over a month now, and it's tough to breathe easily. It's causing me these massive headaches and my nose keeps running. Any idea what's going on or what I can do about it?

Sounds like a painful and uncomfortable situation!

Your symptoms suggest:

  1. Tonsillitis: Inflammation of the tonsils, likely caused by a bacterial (e.g., streptococcal) or viral infection.
  2. Strep throat: A bacterial infection that can cause swollen, red, and white-spotted tonsils.

Seek medical attention from an ENT specialist or a primary care physician. They may:

  1. Perform a rapid strep test or throat culture to confirm the diagnosis.
  2. Prescribe antibiotics (if bacterial) or recommend supportive care (if viral).
  3. Provide guidance on pain management and hydration.

In the meantime, try:

  1. Staying hydrated with plenty of fluids.
  2. Gargling with salt water to soothe the throat.
  3. Using a humidifier to add moisture to the air.

Feel better soon!

I'm really worried about this swollen lymph node behind my ear that's been there for 2 months. I went to my GP a month ago, and they told me to wait another month, and if it didnt go down, to see a specialist. Ive got an appointment with a head and neck doctor, but it won't be for another month. Is it bad to wait that long if it turns out to be something serious like cancer? Could delaying by a month affect my prognosis? Should I start calling around to see if I can get in earlier? It's not painful and feels firm and round, about an inch in size. Im 23, female, and don't have any other symptoms. What should I do?

Your symptoms sound like they could be from a benign cause (such as a viral infection), but it's always better to be proactive about these things, especially with something thats been persistent for a few months. Keep an eye on the lymph node, and if youre feeling anxious, reaching out for additional support or testing might provide some reassurance.

I'm really wondering if having my tonsils taken out will weaken my immunity or if there are any other side effects I should know about after the surgery. Any insights?

Removing tonsils does not significantly reduce immunity. In fact, the tonsils are part of the body's immune system, but their removal typically does not lead to a noticeable decrease in overall immunity. However, after surgery, some common side effects may include temporary pain, swelling, and difficulty swallowing. These symptoms can usually be managed with pain medication and rest.
