I'm really worried about my wife who's got dengue. Her platelet count was initially at 52,000, but then it dropped to 18,000, which led us to get her admitted and she had a platelet transfusion. Since then, her platelet counts have been creeping upfirst 28,000, then 36,000, and now it's at 47,000. I'm confused because I thought after a transfusion, her platelets would increase more quickly. Is this normal or should I be concerned about how slowly they're going up?

What are the 3 stages of iron deficiency?

The first stage is "iron depletion" where iron stores are used up to correct the deficiency. The second stage is "reduced red blood cell formation" where iron supply is not enough to support RBC formation. The third and final stage is "iron deficiency anemia" where hemoglobin concentration is affected and drops below the normal range.

I'm a bit concerned about my hemoglobin level, which is at 18.3. I'm wondering if I should consider donating blood? Also, I'm curious about any lifestyle changes, diet, or medications I should think about. Could you help guide me on this?

Having a hemoglobin level of 18.3 is considered high, and before donating blood, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional. In terms of lifestyle changes and diet, it is recommended to consume iron-rich foods such as red meat, poultry, fish, beans, and dark leafy greens to maintain a healthy hemoglobin level. Additionally, vitamin C can help with iron absorption, so including citrus fruits or bell peppers in your diet may be beneficial. If medication is needed to lower your hemoglobin level, your doctor may prescribe medications such as phlebotomy or hydroxyurea to help manage it.
