I've been dealing with a deviated septum, nasal polyps, and a dust allergy that makes me sneeze nonstop and blocks my nose completely. Could the dust allergy be making the polyps worse over time? The congestion is so bad I can barely breathe or sleep, and OTC sprays give me rebound congestion but I feel stuck using them. I'm also noticing I can't smell mild scents as well anymore. Is surgery like septoplasty or polyp removal my only option, or are there non-surgical treatments I could try first? If I do need surgery, how long would recovery take?

View allI'm a bit worried because I sneezed this morning and felt something happen in my ear. It wasn't too painful at first, but now the pain has become unbearable tonight. I tried steaming, which made me feel a bit better, but the pain came back. Can you help me figure out what's going on with my ear?
It would be advisable to consult an ENT doctor in this situation. There could have been a perforation of the tympanic membrane (ear drum). There is also a possibility of impacted wax having been dislodged due to the sneeze and causing pain thereafter.

I'm a bit worried because while I was eating, I accidentally scratched my throat. Now I'm coughing a lot, and my throat feels really itchy. It also hurts whenever I swallow. Do you think this is something serious, or will it just go away on its own? Should I be doing anything specific to help it heal or make the pain go away?
It sounds like you may have developed some irritation in your throat from scratching it while swallowing. To help with the pain and itchiness, you can try using a throat spray like Chloraseptic which contains benzocaine. You can also take an over-the-counter pain reliever like acetaminophen to help with the discomfort. Additionally, sucking on throat lozenges containing menthol or eucalyptus can also provide relief. Make sure to stay hydrated and avoid irritants like smoking or excessive talking. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional for further evaluation.
