I've been having this burning sensation on the left side of my chest, and today I noticed there's some swelling under my ribs. It's really worrying me since I remember 2 years ago, I went through a bunch of heart checkups, and everything was fine. The doctor back then said it was because of my poor lifestyle. But now, I'm not sure what's causing this pain again. Could you suggest what might be going on and which specialist I should see?

View allI've been dealing with anxiety-induced tachycardia and my resting heart rate used to be around 100-130 with a blood pressure of 130-14070-80 for the past year. My doctor prescribed Ciplar LA 40 mg and Amitone 10 mg, which I've been taking for the past four days. I've noticed my resting heart rate has dropped to between 70-85 and my blood pressure is now around 11080. There's another option, Metoprolol 25 mg, and I'm curious if it's a better choice for me to use just for a month. What would you suggest?
For anxiety-induced tachycardia, both Ciplar LA (propranolol) 40 mg and Metoprolol 25 mg are commonly used beta-blockers to help control heart rate and blood pressure. In your case, since you have already started taking Ciplar LA 40 mg and have noticed an improvement in your resting heart rate and blood pressure within 4 days, it seems to be working well for you. Therefore, I would recommend continuing with Ciplar LA 40 mg for the next month as prescribed by your doctor. It has shown effectiveness in reducing your heart rate and maintaining a normal blood pressure range. Make sure to follow your doctor's instructions regarding dosage and duration of treatment.

I'm really worried because my uncle just had a heart attack and we're in a different country than he is. He's been in intensive care for around 6 hours now. Does that mean it's not life-threatening anymore? How long do people usually survive after having a heart attack? Just trying to understand what we should expect.
The time elapsed since the heart attack occurred is an important factor in determining the prognosis. The first few hours after a heart attack are critical, and the sooner medical treatment is received, the better the chances of survival and recovery. Being in intensive care means that he is receiving close monitoring and specialized care to address any complications that may arise. It is difficult to predict the outcome without knowing the specific details of his case, but being in intensive care is a positive sign that he is receiving the necessary treatment. It is important to follow the advice of the medical team caring for your uncle.
