I've just found out that my absolute basophils and basophils count are at 0.0, and I'm a bit worried because I found that the normal range for absolute basophils is around 20 to 100 cmm. Should I be concerned about this? How can I work on increasing these levels?

I've had small lymph nodes enlarged all over my body for almost 1.75 years near my ears, neck, under my jaw, armpits, and groin. The doctors at CMC Vellore checked my blood work and abdominal ultrasound, said everything's normal, and told me to come back only if the nodes grow bigger. But my armpit nodes keep hurting, and I can feel them constantly. I've seen multiple doctors in Kolkata, but no one has a solution. What should I do? The pain and the constant awareness of these nodes are really bothering me, and I also have a retracted eardrum. Could these be connected?

Given the persistent, unexplained swollen lymph nodes, persistent pain in the armpit nodes, and retracted eardrum, you should seek a second opinion from a specialist, possibly a hematologist or immunologist, to investigate further. A detailed assessment may be needed to determine the cause of your symptoms, including a thorough examination of your lymph nodes, a detailed history of your symptoms, and potentially additional testing like an MRI or a lymph node biopsy.

I'm a 42-year-old guy living in Pune and I've just been told that my platelet count is slightly higher than 5 lakhs. Should I be worried about this? What happens if my platelet count gets even higher? At what point should I start to really worry, like if it goes over 6 lakhs or something like that?

Platelets are blood cells that help with clotting to stop bleeding. A platelet count slightly higher than 5 lakhs is known as thrombocytosis. In some cases, a high platelet count may not cause any symptoms and may be discovered incidentally on a blood test. However, persistently high platelet counts can lead to an increased risk of blood clots. If your platelet count is consistently above 6 lakhs, it may be a cause for concern. It is important to monitor your platelet count regularly and consult with a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause. Treatment for high platelet count may involve addressing the underlying condition, such as an infection or inflammation. In your case, since your platelet count is slightly higher than 5 lakhs and you are 42 years old, it is advisable to follow up with a doctor for further evaluation and management. Regular monitoring of your platelet count and addressing any underlying health issues is important to prevent complications associated with high platelet counts.

I'm a 21-year-old female and recently found out that my red blood cell count is a bit higher than normal. It came back at 5.19 gdl, even though the range is usually 3.80-5.10 gdl. My doctor said not to worry but it's still on my mind. Should I be concerned about this?

No need to worry! Your red blood cell count is only slightly above the normal range, which can happen due to dehydration, stress, or even being at higher altitudes. Since your doctor isnt concerned, its likely not seriousjust stay hydrated and follow up if needed.
