Question

My 16 year old son has been suffering from high fever (104F) and headache for the past 6 days. Yesterday we consulted a doctor. His CBC and urine reports are normal. Malaria and typhoid tests are negative. Platelet count is 1.75 lakhs, SGOT is 65, and SGPT is 70. The doctor prescribed Dolo 650 (three times a day) and Mahacef Plus (twice a day). The fever temporarily decreases after Dolo but rises back to 104F after 4 hours. What could be the reason for the persistent high fever and the increased SGOT and SGPT? What should be done next?

Raised liver enzymes with persistent fever may suggest viral hepatitis or drug induced hepatitis. Re evaluate antibiotics. Consider hospitalization for IV management. Kindly get LFT, Dengue, Typhidot, Viral hepatitis panel done.

Dr. Shaik Suggests...

Take a LFT (Liver Function) Test Test or Take a Typhoid Test Test
