Question
My daughter (4.8 years, 25.5 kgs) needs to get a sample collected for CBC and other tests. How can I apply Topical cream on her hand to ease her needle insertion pain?
Answered by 1 Apollo Doctors
Toplap (numbing) cream can help reduce needle pain for your child. Apply a thick layer (like toothpaste) on the area where the blood will be drawn (usually the front of the elbow) about 45 to 60 minutes before the test. Cover it with plastic wrap or a waterproof dressing to enhance absorption. Remove the cream just before the blood draw and clean the area. Let the lab staff know you have applied the cream for smooth handling during the test.
