My knee MRI shows a complete ACL tear and I'm really worried - is surgery the only option? What happens if I choose not to get the ACL reconstruction? I'm scared about the recovery process and whether I'll be able to play sports again without it

While ACL reconstruction surgery is a common and often recommended treatment for a complete ACL tear, it's not always the only option. If you choose not to have surgery, your knee will likely remain unstable, potentially limiting your ability to participate in sports and other activities. However, with diligent rehabilitation and careful management, some individuals can live relatively active lives without surgery

View allIt's been three months since my ACL and MCL surgery on my right knee, but I still have a very mild limp when walking. I can flex my knee up to 120 degrees and fully extend it, though it's still a little less than my left leg since that one hyperextends. Is this slight limp normal? I can climb stairs but only one at a time.
A mild limp after ACL and MCL surgery at 3 months is common.Physiotherapy should continue and full recovery may take 6–12 months with gradual improvement.

Can anyone recommend a skilled orthopedic surgeon for a complete ACL and MCL tear in my left knee wondering if surgery is really needed or if there are other options
I recommend starting with physiotherapy and painkillers to manage your condition. If there's no significant improvement after a reasonable period, we can then consider surgical options.

My mom has been struggling with her weight and knee issues for a while now. She can't walk properly and has pain when she exerts herself, but otherwise just finds it hard to walk straight. It's been like this for two years is knee replacement the only option or are there other things we can try first?
No, knee replacement is not necessarily the only option for your mom's knee pain and weight issues. There are several other treatments and lifestyle changes that can help manage her pain and improve her mobility before considering surgery. A combination of weight management, exercise, physical therapy, and pain management strategies can be very effective.
