My mom has moderate hearing loss in her left ear and sometimes hears abnormal sounds, but there's no pain. The doctor suggested surgery and did an HRCT of the temporal bone. I'm not sure if surgery is the only option right now are there any alternative treatments we should consider?

Yes, besides surgery, alternative treatments for moderate hearing loss and tinnitus include hearing aids, tinnitus retraining therapy, and potentially certain medications. The best approach depends on the cause of the hearing loss and tinnitus, as determined by the HRCT of the temporal bone and other diagnostic tests.

I've been having this pain in my neck and the upper side of my chest, and sometimes it hurts when I swallow. I'm kind of worried and not sure who I should reach out to for help. Could you give me some advice on what this might be and what kind of specialist I should see?

You can use throat lozenges for throat pain. It is also recommended to drink plenty of warm fluids and avoid spicy or acidic foods. If the symptoms persist or worsen, it is advisable to consult with a medical professional for further evaluation and management. Pain in the neck and upper side of the chest, along with pain during swallowing, could be due to inflammation or infection in the throat or esophagus. This could be caused by conditions such as pharyngitis, esophagitis, or even muscle strain. You can try taking over-the-counter pain relievers like Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for pain relief.
