My mom has severe burning in her rectum but no blood in her stools. We thought it might be piles, but the doctor recommended surgery. What could be the exact issue and is surgery really necessary? Are there any effective ointments or tablets that could help instead?

The burning sensation in the rectum, especially if it's not related to blood in the stool, could be due to several conditions besides hemorrhoids, including anal fissures, proctitis, or even infections. While hemorrhoid surgery is sometimes necessary, it's not always the first line of treatment and other options should be explored. Topical creams, ointments, and in some cases, oral medications can provide relief and may be sufficient to manage the symptoms without surgery

I've had a few tests recently and I'm a bit concerned about my liver results. I got tested on March 16th and my SGOT was normal, but my SGPT was at 83.5, and my platelets were 79000. When I tested again on March 17th, the SGOT was still normal, but the SGPT went up to 87.8. I just had another test on March 19th. I've been trying to manage things by drinking 23 liters of water and taking some supplements like Liver 52, Gaumulive, and papaya leaf extract. Could you help me understand these results, and if there's something else I should be doing to lower the SGPT level?

Based on your test results, Munish, your SGPT (ALT) levels are elevated (83.5 and 87.8), indicating liver inflammation or damage, while your SGOT (AST) levels are normal; your platelet count is also low (79,000); continuing to stay hydrated with 2-3 liters of water and taking Liver 52, Gaumulive, and Papaya leaf extract may be helpful; however, consult your doctor to discuss the test results, potential underlying causes, and adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

My mom is 62 and was diagnosed with a 13 mm gallstone last month. Her total bilirubin level just came back at 5.9 today and she's feeling extremely weak can barely stand. We're planning surgery next month but what tests or steps should we take now to bring her bilirubin levels down?

Given her high bilirubin level (5.9) and symptoms, it's crucial to seek immediate medical attention. Her elevated bilirubin level, along with the 13mm gallstone, strongly suggests a potential issue with bile flow and possibly a blockage. The next steps involve confirming the cause, managing any complications, and preparing her for surgery

I'm 43 and have been dealing with a really bad smell coming from my throat for about a week now. It's so awful and it's even making my throat feel irritated. I haven't noticed any respiratory issues, but I was recently diagnosed with GERD. I'm really concerned about this foul smell and not sure what steps to take next. Can you help me understand what's going on and suggest what I should do?

-The foul smell you're experiencing could be related to your GERD, as acid reflux can sometimes cause bad breath and throat irritation. It might help to follow your doctor's advice on managing GERD, like adjusting your diet and possibly using medications.
