My mom's cardiologist suggested open heart surgery for her severe mitral stenosis but I'm really worried about such a major procedure. I heard about balloon valvuloplasty as an alternative - could that work for her condition? What would you recommend as the best option for her severe valve problem?

View allMy mom, who's 50, has been taking Thyronorm 50 for her thyroid. Her doctor mentioned noticing some changes in her ECG twice during her follow-ups and suggested she should get a TMT and an Echo done. Her 2D Echo looks normal with an LVEF of 65%, but her TMT came back positive for inducible ischemia at a moderate workload level. She's mentioned having shortness of breath sometimes when she's climbing stairs, but other than that, she's fine and doesn't have any chest pain or a history of high blood pressure or diabetes. What would you suggest as the next steps for her?
A 2D Echo is advised as a diagnostic procedure for heart blocks and other pathology..

I'm experiencing some pain under my left collarbone since this evening. I've been dealing with acid reflux and started taking a proton pump inhibitor since Sunday. That day, I felt chills in my arms and chest, and my doctor said it might be anxiety and gave me a prescription for an antidepressant, but I'm not taking it yet. I had an ECG done on Sunday as well, and I'll include the report with my question. Also, I've got a cholesterol level of 124. Should I be concerned about this pain?

I'm really worried about my recent ECG showing a slight ST depression in V5. I've been dealing with anxiety and some gastric issues. I've had previous tests like an ECG treadmill, and both my troponin I and T were normal. Should I be concerned about these new findings?
Slight ST depression in V5 on ECG can sometimes be seen in patients with anxiety and gastric issues. Since your previous ECG, treadmill test, and troponin I levels were normal, it is less likely to be related to a heart condition. However, it is important to continue monitoring your symptoms and follow up with your healthcare provider for further evaluation. In the meantime, you can consider taking medications like Pantoprazole 40mg once a day for gastric issues and medications like Lorazepam 0.5mg as needed for anxiety.
