I felt pain on the side of my shin above the ankle after running a week, almost 5 to 7 km daily with 2 days rest in between. I have completed a half marathon twice before, but this time I started running after a break of 4 to 5 months. I rested for 2 weeks and then saw a physiotherapist. He did TENS and laser for 11 days, suggested exercises, and advised trying running again after 2 to 3 days. After approximately 5 weeks of complete rest and 2 weeks of physiotherapy with hot and cold packs, I started running again, but pain appeared even after running 300 meters. My vitamin D is 11.75. What should I do? Should I meet an orthopedist or someone else?

Pain above the ankle after resuming running, especially with low Vitamin D (11.75), may indicate shin splints, stress reaction, or vitamin D related weakness. It is best to avoid running for now and focus on low impact activities like cycling or swimming. You should start Vitamin D supplementation as advised by your doctor to correct deficiency. If pain persists despite rest, it is advisable to meet an Orthopedic doctor to rule out a stress fracture. You can also book X ray or MRI of the leg if your doctor recommends.
