My father is at CKD stage 5. His creatinine level is 8.5. There is no swelling or urination problem. His hemoglobin is 12. He has been diabetic for the past 26 years and is 50 years old. He also has high blood pressure. The doctor has told us that his kidney has failed due to diabetes. Is there any hope for him except dialysis or a kidney transplant?

With serum creatinine at 8.5, your father is in end stage renal disease (ESRD). Although asymptomatic now, function is severely reduced. Dialysis or transplant is the long term solution. Regular monitoring is critical. Early transplant evaluation is recommended.

Take a KFT with Electrolytes (Kidney Funtion) Test or Take a eGFR Test (Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) Test
