My mother is 51 years old and has been experiencing heavy bleeding for more than 20 days. The heavy bleeding was temporarily controlled with Tranostat tablets prescribed by the doctor, but the bleeding does not stop completely within 7 days, and when it does stop, her next period starts again within 3 weeks. Her haemoglobin level is 9.2, and her weight is 58 kg. Uterus scan and thyroid tests showed no abnormalities. What should be done further to stop this bleeding? The doctor mentioned that D and C may not help in stopping the bleeding, but they can be done if needed. Is a hysterectomy (removing the uterus) the only option?

At 51, your mother is likely near menopause, and heavy bleeding can occur due to hormonal changes even if the scan and thyroid are normal. Since her hemoglobin is low (9.2), treatment is needed to prevent further weakness. If medicines like Tranostat are not helping, your doctor may suggest D and C to check the uterine lining and stop the bleeding temporarily. Removal of the uterus (hysterectomy) is an option if bleeding continues despite medication and D and C. You can book a CBC and Pelvic Ultrasound (if not done recently) before the next consultation.

View allHi, my son is 3 years old and weighs 15 kg. He had no problems at birth. Last month, he was having wheezing sounds in his chest, and the doctor prescribed an inhaler for 14 days. Now he is fine. Today, his blood report shows mild eosinophilia with an absolute eosinophil count of 584, eosinophils 8 percent, monocytes 9 percent, lymphocytes 51 percent, absolute lymphocyte count 3723, platelets adequate, and the remaining values, including IgE, are normal. We stopped the inhaler today as per the doctors prescription. I want to know what mild eosinophilia means, what the treatment is, and whether we should stop or continue the medicine since he currently has no cough or cold?
