My mother is 57 years old and has been receiving treatment at AIIMS Hospital for the past 17 years. She was fine until a month ago, but since then, she has developed a dry cough. She has taken all the medicines prescribed by the AIIMS doctor, but there has been no improvement. Her blood report is normal. The cough is not continuous, but when it starts, it becomes unstoppable for a while. Because of the cough, she also feels pain in her throat. She is taking a cough syrup called Grilinctus. Please suggest what we should do.

If persistent cough despite treatment, consider post viral cough, allergy, or GERD. A chest Xray and review of medications may help. ENT or pulmonology consult advised.

Dr. Hema Suggests...

Take a CBC Test (Complete Blood Count) Test or Take a ESR Test (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) Test

I started feeling unwell with body aches and a temperature of 100F. I took paracetamol, and my temperature returned to normal, but then I developed a cough and mild sore throat. In the morning, I felt cold and my temperature rose to 102F. I took paracetamol again, which brought it down, but the fever returned by 11 am. I consulted a physician and have attached his prescription and test report. After taking the prescribed medicines, I felt better, but I still feel very weak. Last night, I experienced restlessness, excessive sweating, and a rapid heartbeat for a few minutes. I am unsure what happened.

For the past 3 to 4 months, he has been experiencing difficulty during urination. When he feels the urge to urinate, he is only able to pass about 30 to 40 percent of it and cannot empty his bladder completely. He also feels pain internally during the process. After a short time, the urge returns, but again he is unable to fully empty his bladder. I have attached his test report for your review.
