HOMA-IR (Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance) is a test used to determine a person’s chances of developing diabetes.
Being overweight or not getting enough exercise are some of the factors that can contribute to insulin resistance, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and other conditions like stroke. When cells in your body no longer respond to insulin, the body needs to release more insulin in order to help control blood sugar levels. This condition is called insulin resistance, which may be the precursor to diabetes.
When people with normal blood sugar levels reveal resistance to insulin, there is a possibility that their blood sugar may spike in future. HOMA-IR test tells how much insulin the pancreas needs to produce to control the blood sugar levels and helps identify steps that can be taken to prevent diabetes.
