Insulin is responsible for uptake of glucose by the cells from the blood stream, for production and storage of energy. Primarily used to check insulin levels, this test helps in the diagnosis of diabetes and insulin resistance. The test is performed if the person is suffering from common diabetic symptoms such as frequent urination, increased thirst, increased hunger, weakness, weight changes, heart rate changes, poor healing ability, tingling or numbness in the extremities, etc. Also used for identifying insulin resistance, patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), pituitary and adrenal gland diseases, this test further helps in assessing a patient’s response to treatments.
