I have a ganglion cyst on my left hand and it's been causing me pain. I'm not sure whether to go for surgery or try the needle draining method. What are the pros and cons of each option and which one would you recommend for long-term relief?

For a ganglion cyst that causes problems, having a health care provider drain the cyst with a needle might be an option. So might removing the cyst surgically. But if there are no symptoms, no treatment is necessary. Often, the cysts grow and shrink.

My MRI showed ligament damage but I'm not sure if surgery is the only option. Are there other treatments I could try first or is surgery really necessary in my case? I'm a bit worried about going under the knife if there are alternatives that might work.
