I've been smoking for the last couple of years but stopped after getting a bad cold recently. Since then, I've been coughing a lot, and I'm a bit worried because the mucus changed from yellow to white. Is that normal? I've also been gargling and doing some hot water breathing to help my throat. Should I be concerned about anything else?

How can I check my lungs at home?

At home, you may check your lungs functioning with an instrument named "Peak Flow meter". It is a small hand held device, when you blow air into it, it calculates the lung capacity and expansion. Spirometer is another instrument which helps in similar way in lung assessment and additionally it also has therapeutic usage. You may check oxygenation level by "Pulse Oximeter" which gives indirect clue on lung damage but keep in mind there are other medical conditions which may affect pulse oximeter readings.

I've been having this sharp pain in the right side of my chest whenever I take a deep breath. It just started a couple of days ago and I'm not sure what's causing it. Could this be something serious? Should I be worried about my lung?

I've been dealing with a terrible barking cough for the past three days and it's making my chest hurt from all the coughing.
