My 2-year-old daughter has a small 3.4mm inguinal hernia on the right side. A few doctors have recommended surgery, but I'm worried about putting her through an operation at such a young age. Are there any non-surgical options to treat this or could it heal on its own? What would you suggest for her case?

View allMy 3-year-old son was diagnosed with mild hydrocele with no hernia. The pediatrician referred us to a surgeon, and we have an appointment today. I wanted to know if surgery is the only option or if there are medications available too. Also, is it safe to wait a year or two until he's older for the surgery?
Usually 3 years is too late for conservative management. So most likely a survey will be required . However no medication are available to treat this condition

I'm worried about an abscess I have that has turned black. Does that mean it's healing or getting worse? My doctor suggested waiting for 3 days, but I'm still concerned. Can you help me understand what's happening?
If an abscess turns black, it may indicate that the tissue is dying or undergoing necrosis, which could signal an infection is worsening. However, it could also mean the abscess is draining and healing. It's good that your doctor wants to monitor it for a few days to see how it progresses.
