Controlled diabetes allows safe hip replacement if sugar and vitals are stable; premium prosthesis like ceramic or titanium are costlier but last longer with less wear.

View allI'm getting ACL reconstruction surgery soon and my surgeon mentioned options like biodegradable or titanium screws but I'm not sure which to pick. What are the key differences between them in terms of healing and long-term effects? With newer surgical tech available, which type tends to have better outcomes these days? How do doctors usually decide which screw is right for a particular patient?
In ACL reconstruction, both biodegradable and titanium screws offer different advantages and disadvantages. Biodegradable screws, made of materials like PLLA (poly-l-lactic acid), are absorbed by the body over time, eliminating the need for removal. Titanium screws, on the other hand, are permanent implants. Research suggests that both types of screws can lead to similar functional outcomes, though some studies suggest potential benefits of biodegradable screws in certain aspects, like MRI compatibility

I have a bony avulsion fracture of my PCL with a bone fragment that's mildly displaced posterosuperiorly and measures around 16x15x10 mm. All my other ligaments are intact. Will this heal with just 4 weeks in a plaster cast or do I need surgery for it?

My mom is 64 and has osteoporosis with knee pain in both legs. She had an accident 10 years ago and still has a rod in her left thigh that runs from the upper thigh to just above the knee. I'm wondering if the rod needs to be removed before she gets knee replacement surgery. Also, the doctor suggested replacing both knees what are the risks and success rates for someone with her condition?
