Hi Doctor, my father is 58 years old. His lab report shows severe vitamin D deficiency, with a reading of 9 ng per ml. He is not able to sleep, feels depressed, has negative thoughts, and feels very low. Please confirm if his depression and low mood could be caused by vitamin D deficiency?

Yes, low Vitamin D can lead to fatigue, mood swings, and sleep disturbances. With levels this low, supplementation and regular sunlight exposure are needed. Emotional symptoms usually improve gradually with correction.

View allMy vitamin D level is 15 (low). The doctor advised me to take vitamin D weekly for 8 weeks and then monthly once, but did not mention for how many months I should continue. How long should I take the monthly doses? Also, does vitamin D help with chest or rib pain?

My blood test report of 8 April shows 25 OH Vitamin D 17.3 ng/ml and serum calcium 10.3 mg/dl. It is usually said that vitamin D deficiency causes low calcium, but my calcium is almost high. Could there be another problem? I recently passed a kidney stone. Is it related? Is having sun exposure for 15 minutes every morning enough for vitamin D?
